The Clear Creek Amana Community School District board on Dec. 11 approved the 2026-27 instructional calendar, advanced middle- and high-school design-development drawings into the construction-document phase and approved a set of purchasing and funding recommendations.
Calendar: The board voted to approve the 2026-27 school calendar after a motion and second; no amendment to the posted calendar was adopted. A citizen public comment submitted by Alicia Dawson had urged restoring two holiday days to lengthen Christmas break for family travel; the board approved the calendar as presented.
Design-development drawings: The board approved design-development drawings for the middle- and high-school projects and authorized moving to construction documents. Architects requested that a proposed expanded middle-school classroom renovation (to convert and enlarge an industrial-technology space for family-and-consumer-science or science/STEM flexibility) be issued as an "alternate bid" so the district could accept that scope only if contractor bids and funding allowed. Administration and facilities staff said the alternate-bid path reduces budget risk while leaving the design complete.
Purchases and pay applications (approved):
- Band uniforms: Approved purchase of jackets/uniform pieces from DeMolen Brothers & Company for $38,707.28 (funded from activity/fundraising dollars; district funding may be considered next year).
- Van purchase: Approved purchase of a van from Hoagland Bus Company for $60,000 (budgeted in transportation funds).
- Construction payments: Approved Pay App No. 3 to Tricon Construction for the Baseball/Softball Complex Phase 2 ($208,115.83) and Change Order No. 3 ($2,086.83).
State funding requests (approved): The board approved two SBRC (School Budget Review Committee) applications: a modified supplemental amount of $662,205.20 for increased certified enrollment and $47,368.84 for English-learner instruction beyond five years.
Policy revision: The board approved a revision to Policy 7118 to allow transportation on hard-surface roads only during inclement weather when appropriate; administration said communication protocols and excused-absence guidance will be developed for families.
Consent items: Routine consent items and donations were approved as presented.
All motions carried by voice vote.
