Tahlequah — Public commenters urged the committee to consider renovating an existing building for a community theater and to include wayfinding signs in cost estimates, and the committee approved rescheduling its January meeting.
In public comment, Speaker 9 proposed converting the old Methodist gym into a multipurpose facility, endorsing a "black box" theater design as a lower-cost, flexible option and pointing attendees to commercial seating systems and design examples. "I would suggest you drive through there and see it," the commenter said, and urged the committee to consider padded, retractable seating as a cost-efficient approach.
Separately, Speaker 1 recommended including wayfinding signs among smaller, lower-cost improvements that enhance downtown navigation; Speaker 7 noted the city has existing designs that could be deployed quickly.
Under new business, Speaker 1 proposed moving the January 2 meeting to January 9 at 09:30. Speaker 6 moved the motion, stating, "I like so moved." The chair called for those in favor, the motion received voice assent and the meeting adjourned; the transcript records the motion passing by voice vote but does not record a named second or roll-call tally.
Next steps: committee staff will circulate a revised project list, outreach materials and meeting notices reflecting the new January date.
