At the board work session, the superintendent presented the district’s latest enrollment figures and free-and-reduced-lunch statistics, and announced a new playground grant and a community ribbon-cutting.
She said the district’s highest free-and-reduced percentages were Lacey Springs Elementary (77%), West Morgan Middle (76%), West Morgan Elementary (76%), Alfa Elementary (71%) and West Morgan High School (70%). Reviewing year-over-year changes, she reported a districtwide net decrease of 88 students. "So you see that, our really, our net decrease is at, 88 students in the district," she said, and noted demographic shifts and that a separate statute/act referenced in the meeting (referred to in the transcript as the CHEWS Act) is not yet fully in effect.
The superintendent announced Lacey Springs Elementary received a $99,000 grant for playground equipment. She also detailed a ribbon-cutting for the Rural Development Park, a grant project with Calhoun Community College, scheduled for Dec. 17 at 10:00 a.m.; local officials and representatives were listed as expected participants, and the district’s Culinary Arts program will provide refreshments at the event. She invited the community to an open house that same day from 4 to 6 p.m.
On personnel and incentives, the superintendent said a safety-incentive video prepared by 'Mister Boyd' will be shown and that incentive checks will be distributed on the Dec. 19 payday. She closed by thanking faculty and staff and wishing the district a Merry Christmas.
No formal votes on enrollment or grants were recorded in the transcribed segments.
