Scottsburg City's Board of Public Works and Safety on Nov. 20 approved the city's insurance renewal after a presentation from Foundation Risk Partners that described modest overall premium increases and retained existing deductibles.
Murray, a broker with Foundation Risk Partners, told the board the package negotiated for the city keeps terms largely unchanged and that overall premiums rose only modestly. "So that number is eye popping because your exposures in terms of limits have increased, but your premiums only increase in 3%," Murray said, summarizing the renewal's outcome.
The broker outlined key limits and terms included in the renewal packet. He reported a cyber‑liability limit of $1,000,000 with a $25,000 deductible and described professional liability coverage at the levels cited in the packet (presented as $13,000,000 with a $10,000 deductible in the materials). He also described inland marine/scheduled equipment protections with inflation guards for smaller items and a scheduled‑equipment approach for items over $10,000. The brokers noted workers' compensation premium and experience modification items: an experience mod change noted in the packet and a negotiated offset that reduced the city's net increase.
Clerk Treasurer Jane Harvey and other board members praised staff for maintaining accurate asset records and risk‑management practices that the broker said supported competitive pricing. After brief questions from board members, a motion to proceed with the proposed renewal was moved and approved by unanimous voice vote.
Board members said the packet and the broker's benchmarking left them comfortable with the limits and the approach. The board did not alter coverages at the meeting; staff will finalize paperwork and return copies for the city's records.
The board moved on to other business after approving the renewal.
