District leaders told the board the Gaskill pool has been drained and closed after a leak was found that was discharging into the school basement adjacent to air‑handling equipment.
"We shut the pool down because of the leak," said the chair (S1). Facilities staff described an extensive repair once the area is opened up and said remediation could be large enough to require upgrading the pool to current health department standards. A district facilities representative said the leak has been going into the basement and detailed concern for nearby air handlers; health‑department inspectors have verified that the pool is shut down.
The chair said the district will obtain cost estimates and pursue due diligence on options, which include emergency remediation or deferring work to a capital project. "The remediation may be bigger than we expected," facilities staff said; the chair added they will "get cost estimates" and explore patching vs. full capital replacement.
Separately, the district presented a Type II negative declaration for a backup generator project, noting a vendor quote of about $89,000 for the unit (quote excludes wiring and installation). The district intends to submit documentation to seek reimbursement of up to 98% from the state for the emergency generator purchase.
What happens next: staff will return with detailed estimates, a full cost for the generator including wiring/installation, and recommended next steps for remediation or capital planning.
