The Prince William County School Board voted to approve Option A for the 2026–27 school calendar at its Dec. 3 meeting.

The associate superintendent presented the recommended calendar options and explained the committee process used to select dates. Board members discussed the calendar committee’s role — which the administration described as limited to identifying dates rather than scheduling half‑days or altering instructional minutes — and how stakeholders can propose changes to the committee.

During deliberation, Ms. Zargarpur asked whether the board could add half days for teacher work without altering the committee’s role; staff explained that shortening student instructional time would require a different process. Several board members praised the volume of public input: staff reported thousands of survey responses were considered.

Vice Chair Tracy Blake moved to approve Option A; Miss Williams seconded. After discussion, the board approved the calendar (vote recorded as 5 yes, 2 no). Board members said the calendar decision does not change teacher contract hours — the separate motion on contract hours was considered later in the meeting.

What happens next: the district will post the adopted 2026–27 calendar and continue committee outreach on calendar‑related matters.
