Following a recess, the Wythe County Board of Supervisors resumed business and approved several routine and budgetary items.

The board approved payment of invoices and adopted the minutes of the Nov. 25, 2025 meeting by voice votes and roll calls.

Under new business the board adopted a sheriff's salary supplement policy designed to extend tenure‑based pay supplements to newly hired deputies with prior law‑enforcement experience; the policy was moved, seconded and approved and is slated to go into effect immediately.

The budget committee presented a slate of appropriations that the board approved, including $86,676 to finalize VRS employer contribution accounting, $20,000 for Rural Retreat Lake campground office renovations, and a $381,000 appropriation to purchase a new ambulance (the amount was described as inclusive of the load system and stretcher). Board members discussed applying for grants to offset costs. The board also approved an EMS policy change to allow pay progression for employees who advance certifications within the budget year, and authorized increasing the Rural Retreat Lake daily pool fee to $5 for the 2026 season (previously $4).
