Deborah Jacobson, assistant superintendent of operations, told the Financial Operations board during agenda item 13.2 that the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) ‘‘continues to be financially solvent and can meet all current and future obligations.’'
Jacobson said the governor released his budget the day before the meeting and staff are working on a crosswalk to compare the governor’s priorities with USBE priorities; she said that crosswalk will be brought to the board in January. Jacobson reported USBE has already received about 38 fiscal notes for the upcoming session and noted staff expect many more during the session.
On discretionary funds (agenda item 13.3), Jacobson reported there were no new or pending discretionary requests and that current balances and ongoing projects are visible in the board packet. She said incoming discretionary requests are processed through the finance committee and that, at present, the status is ‘‘status quo.’'
Jacobson closed by offering to answer questions; none were raised by the board. She emphasized the agency will continue monitoring the governor’s budget and legislative activity and will return with a detailed comparison and prioritization once staff complete the crosswalk in January.
No formal votes or budget approvals were taken in this meeting segment.
