The Grayson County Board of Supervisors appointed Paul Greg Richardson to fill the interim at-large supervisor seat and voted to petition the county circuit court to hold special elections for the at-large supervisor position and the sheriff's office.
County staff read a slate of applicants and told the board the interim appointment would last until the special election scheduled for November. "The names that were received in the order below were Taylor Hyde, Chris Anders, Terry Dunleavy, Brenda Sullivan, Robert Williams, Paul Greg Richardson, James I Wyatt Junior, Dennis J Cox, and William Jason Harris," staff said when reading the application list.
A board member moved to appoint Paul Greg Richardson to fill the interim at-large position until the special election. The motion received a second and passed on a voice vote with members indicating 'aye.'
In new business the board also moved to petition the circuit court for writs to hold special elections for the at-large supervisor and the sheriff's office. County staff said petitions had been prepared with the clerk (named in the packet) and would be submitted within the code's timeline for filings; staff also described the statutory process for filling a sheriff's vacancy, saying that state code allows the sheriff to designate a deputy to assume authority if qualified.
The motions to appoint an interim supervisor and to petition the court passed without recorded opposition. The board instructed staff to file the petitions and to proceed with scheduling and related paperwork for the upcoming special elections.
