Springfield Township School District held its reorganization meeting Dec. 2, 2025, where four newly elected board members were sworn in and the board elected its leadership and committee assignments for the coming year.
The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners certified the Nov. 3, 2025 municipal election results for the district, and certificates of election were presented for Lee Aberle, Gerard Brett, Katie Davenport and Kate McGranahan. Judge McGill administered the oath of office to the new members, who each swore to support the U.S. and Commonwealth constitutions and to discharge their duties with fidelity.
Following the swearing-in, the board elected its officers. Sean Jordan nominated Neil DeFranco as temporary president; with no other nominations the board elected DeFranco temporary president by acclamation. Nominations for board president produced a single candidate, Jeffrey Bedard, who was elected president by acclamation and assumed the chair. Bedard thanked his predecessor: "I just wanna thank mister DeFranco for your service. That was an incredible temporary performance," he said, and welcomed the new members.
The board also elected Michael Needleman vice president by acclamation. The meeting included no contested votes; each leadership position was approved by voice vote with members saying "Aye."
President Bedard announced committee assignments for the year: Finance (Jeff Bedard, Neil DeFranco, Sean Jordan, Kate McGranahan); Policy (Lee Aberle, Gerard Brett, Sean Jordan, Kate McGranahan); Academic Affairs (Lee Aberle, Eileen Bell, Gerard Brett, Katie Davenport); and Property (Eileen Bell, Katie Davenport, Neil DeFranco, Michael Needleman). He also named outside liaisons and assignments: Bedard for the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology; Sean Jordan for the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit; Kate McGranahan as legislative committee liaison; Katie Davenport as Pennsylvania School Boards Association liaison; Gerard Brett for the Springfield Library; and Neil DeFranco for Springfield Parks and Recreation. The board said full committee listings would be posted on the district website after the meeting.
Dr. Yannickone thanked board members for their volunteer service and noted the time commitment expected of directors. The reorganization meeting adjourned and the board scheduled a regular meeting to commence immediately afterward.
Meeting logistics and legal notice: the board clerk read the statutory notice under Section 402 of the Pennsylvania Public School Code of 1949 that the reorganization meeting would be held at 7 p.m. in the Springfield Township High School library and made available virtually; the notice was advertised in the Nov. 27 Chestnut Hill newspaper and connection directions were posted at www.sdst.org.
Next steps: the board moved directly into its regular meeting following the reorganization session.
