The Southampton County School Board unanimously approved a resolution establishing the official building name and scheduling a groundbreaking for a new student health center. Superintendent Doctor Shannon told the board the building is approximately 7,000 square feet, intended to strengthen health services and expand instructional and indoor athletic opportunities. She said the building will include classroom space and a concession stand and that, after permits are issued, construction is expected to take about six months.

The board set the ceremony for Thursday, Dec. 18 at 10 a.m. and approved language for a brass building plaque. Architect Josh said contractors were preparing a program backdrop and encouraged board attendance. The resolution was moved by Miss Lane, seconded by Mister Scott and approved by voice vote.

Superintendent Shannon also noted changes to the plan that will allow the building to have heating and air conditioning. Reminder notices will be sent about the groundbreaking date.
