Tredyffrin‑Easttown, Pa. — At its Dec. 5 reorganization meeting, the Tredyffrin‑Easttown School District Board of Directors elected Sue Tiede as board president and Kenneth Hong as vice president in unanimous 9–0 oral roll‑call votes conducted under Policy 91‑31.
Under the policy cited by the presiding officer, a single nominee may be elected by oral roll call without suspending the rule; Mr. McDonnell conducted both roll calls. The board recorded nine affirmative votes and no opposition for each office. The board also administered the oath of office to newly elected members before the votes.
Tiede, speaking after the vote, thanked outgoing leadership and praised her predecessor’s role in the district’s recent property acquisition intended to be repurposed as an elementary school. "I am extremely humbled and honored to have this new role," she said, adding that she looks forward "to making Bear Veil Elementary a reality for our community." Tiede also expressed intent to build strong working relationships with fellow board members, administrators and staff.
Hong, elected vice president, said he was "honored and humbled to be chosen by my fellow school board members" and emphasized the board’s commitment to strengthening public education and encouraging open dialogue. He noted high voter participation in the recent election, saying the district recorded "53% voter turnout," about "nearly 25% more than in 2023," and called the result "inspiring."
The meeting was largely procedural; board leaders said there was no consent agenda or committee reports because the session focused on officer organization. Solicitor Ken Roos announced there had been no executive session prior to the meeting, per the Pennsylvania Sunshine Act. The board announced upcoming regular meetings on Jan. 5 and Jan. 26 and Feb. 23 at Conestoga High School. The meeting adjourned after housekeeping announcements.
The board’s actions at the reorganization meeting were limited to administration of oaths and the election of officers; no substantive policy decisions or budget votes were taken. Next regular meetings are scheduled for Jan. 5 and Jan. 26, 2025, and Feb. 23, 2025, all at Conestoga High School.
