Commissioners on the Tiburon Parks & Open Space Commission heard a series of informational updates on mini‑park improvements, the ponds restoration, public‑space amenities and trail safety, and agreed on next steps for community review.
Consultants Carlisle Macy and RHAA are developing designs for three mini parks: Cypress Hollow, Bel Air, and Belvedere Mini Park. Commissioners described two broad approaches for Cypress Hollow — an "immersed and connected" option that emphasizes natural habitat and minimal intervention, and an "activated flow" option that incorporates active play elements and a pump track for older children and teenagers. RHAA is expected to provide design images for community review in January.
Commissioners noted specific site constraints (steep topography and preservation of mature trees at Cypress Hollow; vegetation encroachment into Bel Air; steep slopes at Belvedere Mini Park) and requested the consultants present renderings that reflect community feedback and ADA considerations.
On the ponds and Richardson Bay restoration, staff reported the county project has undergone review by multiple agencies (BCDC, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Marine Fisheries Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, California State Lands Commission and the Regional Water Quality Board). Staff said the borrow area has been reduced to a narrow channel (about 20 feet wide and 280 feet long) with excavation volumes of roughly 475–800 cubic yards and maximum depths around 2.5 feet, and characterized the final restored beach as expected to persist for decades rather than just a single season.
The commission also discussed old rail trail bicycle and pedestrian safety and was told a draft traffic study and advisory committee report covering two priority locations will be presented to the town council in January; POST members requested staff bring the draft to POST for review in advance.
Other items covered in shorter updates included new pickleball striping at Del Mar courts and ongoing work by the public swimming pool subcommittee to compile access information and web resources for residents.
Next steps: consultants will return with visual renderings and community outreach opportunities; staff will bring the traffic study draft to POST before the town council review.
