Coventry — The Town Council voted unanimously to approve Resolution 2025‑121, authorizing $282,345.01 in opioid settlement funds to buy LifePak 35 cardiac monitor‑defibrillators for the town’s four fire districts.

Chief Poppins, speaking for the districts, told the council the purchase would replace aging equipment and help first responders “rescue them and resuscitate them if they’re overdosed and they’re unresponsive,” adding the devices also monitor depressed respiratory systems and will be used in many ALS calls.

The town manager stated that after the planned purchase, roughly $114,000 would remain in the opioid‑settlement fund. Council members asked technical and operational questions about lifespan, interoperability and consumables; Chief Poppins said the equipment’s typical useful life is about 10 to 12 years and that standardizing models among districts improves efficiency and the sharing of consumables.

Councilwoman Alisa Capaldi moved technical edits to the resolution’s language earlier in the meeting to correct grammar and punctuation; the council approved those edits before voting on the purchase. Vice President Brown moved the final resolution to purchase the monitors; the motion carried on a voice vote.
