The board approved facility committee recommendations that reallocate prior high-school savings and reduced middle-school savings to create a $2.5 million option for short-term high-school campus work, and approved the committee's maintenance projects list with one item removed for storage reasons.
The Waunakee Community School District board on Tuesday approved facility-committee recommendations to reallocate previously identified savings and advance a prioritized maintenance list for the district.
Facilities lead Steve explained the committee removed a prior $1.3 million high-school saving from the maintenance funding list and paired it with a $1.2 million reduction in projected middle-school savings to create a $2.5 million budget envelope intended to support short-term work at the high-school campus following approval of the project design. The committee recommended proceeding with the maintenance list but removing a $5,600 salt spreader for Arboretum Elementary because the building lacks storage for the equipment.
"So they're basically being saved at this point until the board makes a decision in 2026 regarding the high school campus," Steve said of the savings. The board moved and approved the committee's recommendation, minus the salt spreader.
Next steps: facilities, technology and security staff will meet with building principals to assemble a priority project list; the board will review bids and consider reallocating funds when ready.
