The Springfield Economic Development Agency board discussed next steps for the Memorial Building and directed staff to continue a disposition process and gather more information from potential buyers.
Ali Camp, economic development manager, reminded the board that at its April 28 meeting it had outlined a disposition process that included listening to the property, collecting additional information from interested buyers and discussing next steps. "The board's intent with dispositioning the Memorial Building was to bring a positive use to downtown, increase the tax base, and ensure the building receives investment and maintenance," Camp said.
Board members expressed interest in continuing negotiations, obtaining more detailed financial information from prospective buyers, and revisiting earlier offers if there is renewed interest. Staff confirmed marketing materials had been removed but said the property could be re-listed if the board directs it to do so.
No formal motion was recorded. The board indicated consensus direction — including returning with more information and bringing the item back to the board in the fall — via discussion and head nods during the meeting.
