Wayne County commissioners approved a 12-month STOP Violence grant from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for fiscal year 2026 that will fund three full-time assistant prosecutors to focus on domestic violence cases and related personal protection order violations.

Tony Guerrero, chief of legislation, grants and community relations for Wayne County Prosecutor Kim Worthy, told the committee the grant totals $397,087: $297,815 from the state and a 25% county match of $99,272 to be paid by chargebacks. The grant term he cited runs from Oct. 1, 2025 through Sept. 30, 2026.

Commissioner Peterson Mayberry asked whether the positions are only funded for one year and whether the prosecutor's office will seek follow-on grants for continuity. Guerrero said the prosecutor's office regularly pursues grants and that staff in the grants office are working to supplement this funding.

Commissioner Dobbs moved approval; Commissioner Wilson seconded and the clerk announced the motion carried. The transcript does not record a roll-call tally.
