During the Nov. 24 meeting, the Select Board reviewed several personnel and operations items affecting town administration and facilities.
The board said Duffy (previously an alternate) will be presented on Dec. 1 as interim building commissioner after Mary Paul’s last day on Nov. 28; the board noted Duffy is scheduled for surgery on Dec. 16 and that backup coverage will be required while he recovers.
The treasurer/collector vacancy is a priority: Nate (staff) asked for assistance while working remotely. The board described a two-stage hiring plan: an initial in-person screening panel consisting of Mary (outgoing treasurer/collector), Sarah (assistant treasurer/collector) and one Select Board member, followed by a second-round interview with Nate and two Select Board members (conducted remotely if needed). The board reported receiving several applications for the treasurer/collector position.
Select Board members also discussed problems closing the FY2025 books: Sam (current town accountant) is reconciling records inherited from a previous accountant but there remain missing pieces that are slowing the close and the free cash certification. The board said it is pursuing an outside, more experienced consultant from another community to help clean up FY25 so auditors can be engaged and certification can proceed; Finance Committee Chair Seth has been notified and a reserve transfer may be sought if necessary.
Separately, the chair reported an emergency repair authorisation for plumbing work at the First Meeting House (well tank, pump control switch, water heater and pipe insulation) with a contractor quote of $7,845. The chair said the cost would be paid from the First Meeting House (FMH) revolving account or the town building maintenance line and that the work will be scheduled promptly. The chair stated the emergency approval had already been signed "to get this thing taken care of" to avoid winter freeze damage.
The Select Board closed the meeting after these updates and some procedural housekeeping.
