Design teams and construction managers presented schematic designs and planning-level budgets for multiple Clayton schools and athletic facilities as the district prepares possible bond funding.
Presenters described Captain Elementary as a new building with phased options, Glenridge and Merrimack as compact renovations emphasizing relocated entries, storm-shelter-capable gyms and extended-learning "pods," and a high-school CTE addition to add robotics, pre-engineering and flexible classroom space. Construction management described synthetic turf at Wyedown, dugout and press-box completion at Adzick, and an extensive two-tier stadium plan for Gayfield with up to 2,000 seats, concessions, restrooms and additional parking.
"We were able to gain that flex classroom at Glenridge as well," a design team member said, and presenters repeatedly emphasized preserving parking counts, improving accessibility, and reusing kitchen/cafeteria spaces where feasible. Acoustic testing for performance spaces showed about 50 dB in some music rooms; teams recommended mechanical and acoustic upgrades to reduce noise.
BSI presented planning-level budget ranges derived from comparable projects and adjusted for scope and quality; it grouped a Phase 1 portfolio (High School CTE, Glenridge, Gayfield) in a $105'$130 million planning range and showed Merrimack and Captain in a separate $163'$187 million bucket. BSI and designers stressed that these are early ranges and that schematic-design completion will allow more precise, project-specific cost estimates.
