During the finance portion of the meeting, Speaker 2 said the committee will consider purchase orders for interactive displays (replacing failing SMART Boards) and notebooks for career-technical-education (CTE) programs. Staff estimated the display purchase at a little over $41,000 to buy 15 units: 10 at the campus and 5 elsewhere. Two of the units will be charged to a grant supporting the CTE program while the remainder will be district purchases to begin a scheduled replacement cycle.
Speaker 4 described the implementation approach: English classrooms will receive standard large-screen TVs paired with document cameras where interactivity is not required; math and CTE classes with interactive programming demands will receive interactive TVs. At the high school the initial rollout will prioritize math teachers because of new curriculum demands.
In a separate item, Speaker 2 described an agreement with Auburn Career Center to support middle-school electives, noting state direction to expand middle-school career programming. The funding will be distributed to affiliated schools and may support equipment, instruction or other program costs; staff said exact uses will be determined through program conversations.
Next steps: the committee will include these purchase orders and funding items on the upcoming agenda for approval and will charge two display units to a grant as indicated.
