Riverside Local School District board members voted to recess into consecutive executive sessions to discuss employment and legal disputes, and later approved two personnel resolutions that passed by 3-1 recorded votes.
An unidentified board member moved that the board recess into executive sessions “for the purposes of considering the employment, dismissal, discipline, devotion, and compensation of a public employee official, and conferencing with an attorney for the public body concerning disputes … that are the subject of imminent court action,” citing state statutory provisions as the basis for confidentiality. The motion to enter executive session was approved in a roll-call vote announced by the chair as 4-0.
Under new business, the board approved a resolution to declare its intention not to reemploy a staff member — commonly called a nonrenewal decision — after a motion and second. On the roll call for that resolution, Miss Brewster voted Aye; Missus Kranensky voted Nay; Mister Fischel and Mister Keeney voted Aye. The board chair announced the motion carried 3-1.
The board later moved to declare its intention to consider termination of a contract with “full specification of the grounds for such consideration.” That measure was seconded and likewise approved by a 3-1 roll-call vote.
Earlier in the meeting an unidentified board member urged postponing discussion and action on the matter until a time when all five board members could be present, saying, “This is a major long term decision for the district.” That motion to postpone received no second and therefore failed. The board proceeded with the posted agenda items and recorded votes.
Board officials announced upcoming committee and board meeting dates: a Policy Committee meeting the next morning at 7:30 a.m.; the Finance and Personnel Committee on Dec. 11 at 8:00 a.m.; Buildings and Grounds on Dec. 16 at 7:30 a.m.; and a Board of Education meeting on Dec. 18 at 6:00 p.m. The board also said a special meeting will be noticed for Dec. 10, though members discussed conflicting times (4:30 p.m. versus 5:30 p.m.) and at least one member noted they could not attend at 4:30 p.m.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn at 9:17 p.m., which was seconded and moved to a roll call.
