The mayor told the Prospect Forestation Board that the City Council will consider an ordinance to regulate privately owned golf carts used on city streets in Hunting Creek and the estates of Hunting Creek. Citing state authority, the mayor said the proposed ordinance requires items that many privately owned carts lack, such as seat belts and turn signals, and is likely to prompt public comment. To ease the transition, he said the council is considering deferring the ordinance’s effective date to March 1, 2027, to give owners one season to retrofit equipment.
"We're undertaking to... defer the effective date of the ordinance to 03/01/2027," the mayor said, adding that the club had reported about 166 privately owned golf carts and that club members would be invited to register and speak at the council meeting.
The mayor also announced the recipient of the Craigmile award, to be presented in January, identifying Linda Knox as the honoree. The mayor described Linda Knox as chair of the Forestation Board and noted her volunteer work as president of her HOA and in the local library. Board members congratulated Knox during the virtual meeting.
The council meeting to consider the ordinance is scheduled for Monday at 7 p.m.; the mayor said the club had notified its members and that residents would have an opportunity to sign up and comment. The item is on the council agenda and the city plans outreach to affected homeowners and stakeholders ahead of the hearing.
