Dr. Vicky Vaztechi Perez, president of Montgomery County Community College, asked the county commissioners to consider raising the college’s millage from 0.39 to 0.49 mills to sustain operations and workforce development programs. She told the commissioners the college would freeze tuition for three years if the board approved the increase.
"We appreciate your consideration of our proposed increase to 0.49 millage," Dr. Vaztechi Perez said, noting the college’s contribution to the local economy and the return on investment figures presented to the board. She cited operational, construction and alumni economic impacts and said local funding parity with state support would help keep student costs down.
A student speaker, Sloan Harker, described personal academic and professional benefits from attending the college and urged continued support: "Montgomery County Community College is a great asset to this county," she said. No formal board action on the millage occurred at the hearing; the request will be considered as part of the overall 2026 budget process.
