LEWISTON — At the start of the Dec. 8 meeting, Lynn Johnson, Lewiston’s library director, told the council the Lewiston Library received a donated baby-grand piano commemorating former director Dawn Whitman and invited the public to two upcoming Saturday recitals by local teachers and students. "It is a 100 plus euro baby grand...it adds an additional educational element to the library offering the public a place to celebrate young pianists," Johnson said.
During citizen comments, Steve Leto, who identified himself as a Lewiston resident, urged the council to end prayers before meetings. "I think we have church and we have state, and we should keep the two apart," Leto said, adding his concern that the practice could invite litigation from the ACLU. No council action on meeting prayer was taken at this session.
The library event is scheduled to be open to the public; Johnson encouraged attendees to enjoy live music at the library over the next two Saturdays.
