Jeremy Lee Wood, DOC 497135, was granted parole Dec. 9 by the Louisiana Committee on Parole, the panel announced after supporters and facility staff described his conduct while incarcerated.
Chairman Danny Barra opened the hearing and read Wood’s file, saying the inmate is a first‑felony offender with a parole eligibility date in February and a full‑term date later in the 2020s. Warden testimony described Wood as “not a problem inmate” who had completed his GED and offender-treatment phases and participated in special projects and community charity work while at David Wade Correctional Center.
Family members told the board Wood has a concrete reentry plan. His son, Jeremy Woods Jr., told the panel he would provide a home and support and said of his father, “I look at him, but I see, you know, I see my dad.” A brother and sister also described steady housing, employment plans and ongoing family support.
Board members questioned whether the proposed residence met statutory restrictions on proximity to parks, day‑care centers and schools. Supporters said they understood the requirement and expected a pre‑release inspection. After an executive session, Chairman Barra announced his vote to grant parole with conditions and specified requirements on an approved residence plan, an 8 p.m.–6 a.m. curfew except for work, required registration under offender rules and a mental‑health evaluation with follow‑through on any recommendations. The board recorded a unanimous vote to grant parole.
The board’s order also barred any contact between Wood and the victim or the victim’s family as a condition of release. The panel closed the hearing by instructing staff to verify the residence and complete required documentation before release.
The parole decision follows more than two decades of incarceration for Wood and emphasizes supervised reentry and monitoring as the board’s rationale for approving early supervised release.
