The Monroe-Woodbury Board of Education reorganized its leadership and approved a slate of routine business at its Dec. 10 meeting.
Trustees nominated Caitlin Simmons to serve as board president and Suzanne Donoghue as vice president; both nominations were seconded and approved by voice vote. The board recorded that Simmons, who was not present, has up to 30 days to appear and take the oath of office.
The board unanimously adopted an in‑memoriam resolution honoring Ronald Johnson, a longtime music teacher who worked for the district from September 1969 until his retirement in July 2004. The resolution was read into the record and will be entered into district historical records.
On routine business, trustees approved the Nov. 19 minutes, waived the first reading of policy 5,151 and subsequently adopted the policy updates listed on the agenda. The board also opened public comment time on the districtwide school safety plan for 2025–26 (no speakers were registered) and then approved the safety plan by motion and voice vote.
Committee reports followed: the policy committee noted attorney review is pending for several items; the Capital Project Advisory Task Force previewed Phase 2 work and said the board would be asked to approve five Phase 2 contracts on the night’s agenda. The board heard an audit committee meeting notice and a student representative report summarizing a student survey (249 responses) and student priorities.
Personnel items (14.1–14.2), business and financial items (15.1–15.9) and Committee on Special Education recommendations were presented and approved by voice vote. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn into executive session to discuss a personnel matter, which carried on a voice vote.
