Board Chair Eddie Wong opened Monday’s Jefferson High School listening session with an apology for the board’s conduct at a recent meeting, saying parts of that earlier meeting “did not reflect the level of respect, clarity, or care that our community expects from its elected leaders.”
Wong acknowledged that some comments from that meeting “were experienced as microaggressions” and that members of the community felt “dismissed, unheard, or undermined.” He said the board reflected on the incident, accepted responsibility for tone and not just outcomes, and committed to “better conversations, better listening, better action” going forward.
Wong also warned against threats, harassment and online targeting of board members and staff, saying such behavior “has no place in a healthy public dialogue.” He framed the apology as part of a broader pledge to rebuild trust through actions and indicated the board will hold itself accountable as it moves toward decisions on the Jefferson assignment area.
The apology preceded a district presentation on the superintendent’s recommended Scenario C and a lengthy public comment period. No formal board discipline, procedural changes or specific follow‑up processes were announced at the listening session; Wong’s remarks were framed as a public commitment to improve the board’s deliberative culture.
