Romulus City Council on Dec. 8 approved several financial items: a HUD Community Development Block Grant subrecipient agreement with Wayne County for $200,000 to fund a senior center security system, a new generator and touchless bathroom fixtures; introduction of budget amendment 25/26-11 to recognize public-safety grant revenue; and approval of Warrant 25-23 totaling $1,351,059.80 across city funds.
The administration explained the HUD award came as supplemental funding carried from 2023 and that the $200,000 must be spent by June of the following year because of the funding cycle. The council discussed the senior center generator’s limitations (the existing used generator previously powered only half the building) and supported upgrading to a generator that will run the full facility, improving the building’s use as a warming center.
Council moved to introduce budget amendment 25/26-11 recognizing public-safety grant revenue secured with assistance from state legislators. Separately, the council approved Warrant 25-23, covering expenditures across the general fund, water and sewer, library, public safety and other city funds with a total of $1,351,059.80.
All motions were approved by recorded vote. Specific grant deadlines, fund sources and the generator’s scope were discussed on the record; further project-level implementation details will be managed by city staff and the finance director.
