City staff presented a summary of recent holiday events branded "Christmas on Main," highlighting participation, volunteers and sponsor support.
Community Development Manager Stephanie Wilson told the council the city hosted multiple activities: Waffles with Santa (309 participants), two story-time sessions (181 participants per session in identical sessions as noted), an early ice-skating opening that drew 321 skaters, a hot cocoa crawl that distributed 455 cups, and a holiday block party and tree lighting where the library counted roughly 400 attendees. Wilson also reported 52 parade participants and said the Christmas Opry event attracted over 1,000 attendees across Friday through Sunday. She credited sponsors (including Northwest Natural), nonprofits and volunteers for the events' success.
Wilson said the events are part of a broader effort to create "place and traditions for our future generation" and to support downtown vitality; she invited questions from councilors and received multiple expressions of appreciation from council members.
