The Board of Library Trustees voted Dec. 8 to approve a 2026 meeting calendar that removes regular July and August meetings and schedules the November meeting for Nov. 16, with no regular December meeting. The motion to adopt Option 2 was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
Board members and staff discussed the rationale for the reduced summer schedule. The library director said summer months often conflict with member and staff schedules and noted that staff presentation opportunities are concentrated during the regular months; trustees said they favored ensuring full-board attendance for presentations. One trustee emphasized that if urgent business arises the board can call a special meeting.
The board also addressed a procedural correction to the minutes of the Oct. 20, 2025 meeting. A member requested a spelling correction to their surname; the board re-made the motion to approve the minutes with the edit and approved it by roll call before moving on.
In the same meeting the director reported recent donations including $140 from Cecilia Chang, $500 from Heidi Erster and an anonymous gift designated for a stargazing kit; staff said the funds will purchase a third stargazing kit (two are currently in circulation) and undesignated donations will be split equally between youth and adult program supplies.
What's next: trustees will elect a new chair and vice chair at the Jan. 26, 2026 meeting, when staff will also preview presentations for the coming year.
