The La Marque City Council approved two administrative items on Dec. 12: a contract for accounting and financial services and a mobile‑services contract with device policy updates.
Finance staff recommended Cherry Bekaert to reconcile fiscal year 2025 and complete audit-ready financials, noting the firm’s national presence and the timely completion guarantee required for audit schedules. "The firm that met the needs we were looking for is Cherry Bekaert," staff said; council voted to approve the contract.
Council also approved a proposal to switch the city’s cellular carrier to obtain better coverage and emergency-priority service for public safety and key personnel. Staff described features including recorded city calls/texts for public-records compliance, priority lanes for emergency calls, and a buy-back option for old devices to offset costs. The contract will provide phones and tablets to staff and council, with accommodations available for accessibility needs (larger font/tablets).
Finally, council adopted a city-issued mobile device policy that incorporates state and federal prohibited-technology guidance (banned apps and software) and requires city-owned devices for city business to ensure compliance and proper records retention. Staff said the policy will eliminate stipends and centralize device governance to control applications and data on city devices.
