The state dental board voted to reinstate the license of Dr. Avanish Patel after reviewing a reinstatement application and related documents.
Judith, who presented the application to the board, said Patel’s original license was issued in 2018 and lapsed in 2021; for reinstatement the board requires 12 continuing education credits. She told the board the applicant had submitted documentation and was available on the call to answer questions.
Patel, who participated remotely, said he last did clinical work in 2023 and that he plans to return as an associate in a general dentistry practice while continuing to support clear‑aligner (Invisalign) cases through an education platform. “My plan moving forward is to reactivate the license, and be able to practice as an associate,” he said.
Board members asked whether a hands‑on remedial course should be required given the lapse from active practice. Judith said 12 continuing education credits are required for reinstatement but that any additional course requirements would be the board’s decision. Several members noted that practicing licenses in other states (Patel holds licenses in Connecticut, Florida and Texas) and recent clinical experience weighed in favor of reinstatement. One board member said that because Patel is currently licensed elsewhere and has recent clinical experience, she did not see a need for immediate hands‑on remediation.
A motion to reinstate Patel’s license was made and seconded; the board voted in favor and the motion carried. Judith confirmed the license will retain the same number when reactivated.
Next steps: Patel will complete any required administrative steps for reactivation and may seek an associateship when he returns to clinical practice.
