Mayor Nancy Ross used a public appearance at Cathedral City's amphitheater to both affirm her oath and announce a community honor, naming an attendee representing the Clyde Food Bank as the city's person of the year.
"I'm the mayor this year. I'm having the state of the city, and I would like you to be our person of the year," Mayor Nancy Ross said, inviting the honoree to attend the State of the City event. The invitation drew surprise and thanks from the audience.
An event speaker introduced "my great friend, Cathedral City Mayor Nancy Ross" and said of the outdoor series, "Final week of Taste and Sound in Cathedral City. Already have more than 500 people." The mayor described Taste and Sound as "such a community gathering place for this great music," noting food carts, seating and "the camaraderie and the music and under the stars."
Speakers also pointed to the new amphitheater, which had been "years in the making," and asked whether it "has lived up to everything you hoped for?" Mayor Ross replied that it had, adding a lighthearted reference to the evening's performers.
She closed the remarks with a ceremonial line: "May this field of valor remind us of the cost of freedom, the strength of community, and the endearing spirit." The concert series is in its final week, and organizers said it drew large crowds during the appearance.
No formal votes or policy actions were recorded during this event; the appearance functioned as a mix of ceremony and community outreach.
