The Delaware County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 11 approved a five-year master purchase agreement between the county, the sheriff's office and Axon Enterprises for replacement tasers and related equipment, and separately authorized applying for the Bulletproof Vest Partnership grant.
McElroy, finance director for the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, said the Axon agreement would total just under $1.2 million over five years, roughly $236,000 per year, and would also provide tasers for jail staff and training supplies. Commissioners asked about the contract amount before voting to approve Resolution 25-1043.
Under Resolution 25-1044, the board agreed to submit an application to the U.S. Department of Justice Bulletproof Vest Partnership, a competitive program that provides reimbursement for vest purchases at a 50% match. McElroy said vests currently in use are due to expire next year and the grant would help offset replacement costs; he cautioned the award is competitive and the full requested amount may not be granted.
Both measures were approved by unanimous vote. The meeting record did not include precise procurement terms or long-term training commitments beyond the contract description.
