Before substantive business the presiding officer recognized three city department heads who will soon retire after decades of service.
The presiding officer said City Attorney Lynn Lawrenson has served the city for over 33 years, including roughly 18 years as city attorney, and has been involved in development agreements, ordinances and contract negotiations. Parks Director Ray Maurer was acknowledged for 16 years of service and his work on the zoo, Lakeshore redevelopment, the Four Seasons Pavilion and riverwalk implementation. John Fitzpatrick, director of administrative services and assistant city manager, was noted for about 26 years with the city and for having twice served as interim city manager.
Council and staff presented gifts and took a photo to mark the retirements; the presiding officer thanked them for their service to Oshkosh.
