At its Dec. 9 meeting, the Polk County School Board approved a comprehensive package of policy updates that had been presented in work sessions on Sept. 23, Oct. 14 and Oct. 28.
The chair read a long list of policy numbers and titles into the public record during the public hearing, including Policy 6110 (grant funds), Policy 6111 (internal controls), Policy 6112 (cash management of grants), Policy 7240 (site acquisition), Policy 8405 (school safety and security), Policy 8500 (school nutrition program), policy 2280 (physical education), policy 2410 (school health services), policy 5514 (use of bicycles), and many others across academic, operational and personnel areas. After the policies were presented, Board member Allen moved to approve the public-hearing package; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.
The chair noted the policies had been discussed across three separate work sessions and said, "we have done a thorough job of vetting these policies," explaining that staff and board members had invested significant time in review. Attorney Green later requested authority to advertise a public hearing on Jan. 27, 2026 for additional rule development on policies presented at the Nov. 18 and Dec. 9 work sessions; the board approved that advertising request as well.
No public speakers signed up to comment on the policy updates during the hearing portion of the meeting. The board’s action directs staff to proceed with the implementation steps consistent with the approved language and with further public-notice steps where required.
