The New Canaan Fire Commission opened its meeting with officer elections, routine approvals and a departmental update before devoting extended discussion to fleet maintenance.

Diana (elections official) called for nominations. Speaker 3 nominated Bob Field for chair and Speaker 5 seconded; the commission voted unanimously in favor. For secretary, Speaker 1 nominated Mike (referred to in discussion as Mike Cocci), Speaker 5 seconded, and the commission again approved the nomination unanimously.

The commission approved last meeting’s minutes after a motion by Speaker 5 and a second by Speaker 1. Members also approved the 2026 meeting schedule (second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. in Town Hall) by voice vote.

Chair moved the meeting into reports. The Chief delivered the November operations report, noting 99 calls for service in November, nine fires (two building fires) and reporting property loss of roughly $244,000 and contents loss of about $175,000 to date. The Chief also said the department is moving to a new federal incident reporting system called Neeris and that the FY26 budget is about 35% expended.

During budget discussion, Speaker 8 asked that equipment and repair lines be discussed further; with that caveat Speaker 5 moved to approve the budget and Speaker 3 seconded. The commission voted in favor, approving the budget subject to additional discussion of repairs and equipment needs at a follow‑up meeting.

There were no public comments. The Fire Marshal, Paul, was not present and his submitted report was circulated for the record. The meeting adjourned after the commission set Jan. 13, 2026 at 5 p.m. in Town Hall as the next regular meeting and agreed to post a special meeting to address equipment topics.
