During advisory board updates councilmembers gave brief reports from boards and commissions. The airport commission is planning runway and taxiway work and expects a second daily flight starting May 7; commission members are also reviewing an outdated Title 11 that governs airport operations.
Councilmembers heard a report on the senior activity center: meal service has expanded substantially (from about 1,255 meals in November previously to 1,531 in the most recent November), and the center faces staffing and one-time equipment expenses that led to a significant net loss in the latest month. The senior center has increased participation and remains a critical social and nutrition hub for older residents.
The council president said the PDA (Public Development Authority) approved an RFQ for demolition of the Monarch Building to coordinate timing with an underpass closure and minimize downtown disruption. Historic Downtown Pocatello board priorities included Center Street Underpass coordination, east-side curb and gutter work, consideration of a façade fund, and strengthening city-board communication.
Council members also praised the water department for its performance on a recent charter school project and encouraged residents to use the updated city app to submit service requests, noting the old app can still be found in app stores and may confuse users.
