The Chelsea School Committee voted to approve a five-year contract extension for Superintendent Dr. Albeda, covering Jan. 1, 2026, through Jan. 1, 2031.
Chair Veronica moved the item onto the floor after a member proposed taking item 2.5 (SC77) out of the published order. The committee’s explanation said the contract terms were revised to change duration and compensation after benchmarking performance and pay against surrounding districts. On a roll call the committee recorded eight votes in the affirmative with two members absent and the motion passed.
Chair Veronica said the committee was “honored to be able to reevaluate her contract and make these adjustments that she very well deserves,” thanking the superintendent “for all your service, all you’ve done for Chelsea and our children in this district.”
Superintendent Dr. Albeda thanked the committee and described the vote as support for the district’s work: “I just wanna say thank you. Grateful for a supportive school committee. You make it much easier to do the work that I get to do,” she said, and cited the cabinet team in continuing efforts to improve schools.
The contract was presented as an accepted, negotiated agreement between the superintendent and the Chelsea School Committee; the committee record lists the term dates above and notes the changes were based on benchmark data and a performance evaluation. No amendments to the contract were recorded during the meeting.
Outcome and next steps: The extension was approved by roll call (8–0, 2 absent). The committee did not record follow-up tasks or an immediate effective-date caveat beyond the stated contract term.
