The Miami Lakes Cultural Affairs Committee endorsed a collaboration with the Special Needs Advisory Board to present an exhibit in April showcasing work by people with disabilities. The working title discussed was 'Art Without Limits: Celebrating Unique Perspectives,' with an opening night scheduled for April 10 and exhibit hours discussed for a 6–8 p.m. reception.
Staff and board representatives discussed museum-related opportunities, including a one-hour museum tour and access to a Frost Planetarium show for committee participants. Members raised logistics: how many works could be hung (estimates ranged from about 10 to as many as 25–30 depending on piece sizes), whether works would be for sale (committee discussed not selling at opening but allowing contact info for purchases), and responsibilities for hanging, setup and refreshments. Staff said no funding was required from the committee for opening-night refreshments and asked committee volunteers to help with setup.
Next steps: staff and the Special Needs Advisory Board will finalize exhibit space dimensions, eligibility and submission processes and return with a more detailed logistics plan at a subsequent meeting.
