Lakeville — At the Nov. 24 meeting, trustees heard a roundup of programming and staffing changes and discussed holiday-event planning.
Director Jennifer Jones reported on recent programs: story hours, music time (average attendance of about 34 children and caregivers), STEAM afternoons (an eight-week run with increasing attendance), book clubs, therapy-dog visits (Remy replacing a therapy dog named Bella) and an open house scheduled for Dec. 6. She said the Friends of the Library are not meeting in December but will sponsor the open house. "Music time wrapped up. Attendance averaged 34 kids and caregivers," Jones said.
Jones also announced that staff member Doris Murray resigned/retired effective Nov. 20 and that the position has been advertised; several applicants have submitted resumes. Trustees discussed hiring timing and whether the town’s budget process or a hiring freeze would affect filling the post.
With the town’s Christmas stroll canceled, Jones proposed hosting craft activities in the library meeting room at noon and decorating the gazebo for family photos during the Snowperson Jubilee. Trustees discussed funding options — using supply/gifts money or drawing on the capital fund to avoid affecting personnel budgets — and suggested volunteers and the Friends could help reduce costs.
Trustees set a tentative next meeting date (Dec. 17 at 08:30) with flexibility if budget deadlines require an earlier session. The meeting adjourned at 09:28.
Next steps: Director Jones will proceed with the open-house planning, coordinate any volunteer decoration efforts and follow up on the hiring process for the vacated position.
