At its Dec. 10 meeting, the Norwalk Fair Rent Commission voted on several case actions: it recommended taking no action on a long-running case, closed a case after the parties filed a withdrawal, and accepted three newly filed complaints for hearing.
Attorney Russell Liscoff summarized the oldest matter, 1862-2541 (Wolf Pit Road), and "recommended tonight that we vote to take no action on the case," saying resolution is near and the outcome should also resolve related civil litigation in superior court. The motion to take no action was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote.
On case 1869-25 (Live Oak Road), Liscoff said the landlord initially sought to raise rent from $3,500 to $3,950, but "the landlord and the tenant have made peace with each other," a withdrawal was filed, and Liscoff recommended closing the file. The commission voted to close the case.
For case 1871-25 (Tazewell Road), Liscoff reported an agreement between landlord and tenant on a small rent change (from $2,003.18 to $2,004.34) but said the case awaits a Section 8 coordinator's input and a new lease; he recommended taking no action this month, and the commission approved that recommendation.
The commission accepted three new complaints for hearings:
- Case 1873-25 (Truman Court, Apt. 2): Liscoff said the landlord proposed raising rent from $1,006.75 to $2,800 for a two-bedroom unit; the tenant indicated she may move out on Dec. 15. The commission voted to accept the case; staff said it will serve the landlord by Dec. 16 if the tenant has not vacated.
- Case 1874-25 (Boughton Street, Apt. 4): landlord proposed increasing rent from $1,500 to $1,700; complaint accepted.
- Case 1875-25 (Bartlett Avenue, Apt. 1): landlord proposed increasing rent from $1,400 to $2,000; complaint accepted.
All motions recorded in the transcript were moved, seconded, and carried by voice vote with no recorded oppositions other than a single abstention earlier during minutes approval. The commission adjourned after completing business.
