The Commerce City Council completed its annual assignment of council members to internal committees and external boards on the evening it organized the new council.

The mayor opened the agenda item with the clerk's spreadsheet and set a process for volunteers and contested appointments. Multiple council members volunteered for specific commissions (DEI, Environmental Policy, Parks and Recreation, Youth, Housing Authority and others). The council debated scheduling conflicts and potential conflicts of interest for some civic-organization roles.

The most contested external seat was the city's representative to the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), referred to in the meeting transcript as "Doctor COG." Mayor Douglas initially moved to appoint himself but that motion failed on the recorded vote. Councilmember Dukes then moved to appoint himself; that motion was seconded and passed on a recorded vote of 8–1.

After the contested votes, the city clerk read aloud the compiled list of appointments to boards, commissions and committees. Council voted to confirm the full slate "as stated" and the roll-call vote passed unanimously.

What this means: the votes determine which council members will represent Commerce City on regional bodies and which will handle internal committee work. One contested appointment produced a recorded dissenting vote but the full slate passed on final confirmation.
