The Lenoir County Board of Education elected Mr. Anderson as chair and Dr. Aslan Stark as vice chair during its Dec. 8 meeting.
Attorney Adam Mitchell reviewed the nominations and voting process under board policy 2200 before the floor opened for nominations. Multiple members were nominated for chair, including Jonathan Britt and Mr. Anderson; administrative assistant Miss Taylor distributed ballots when more than one candidate was nominated. "With the 4 votes in favor of Mister Anderson, Mister Anderson is elected chair of the board of education," the presiding official announced after tallying ballots.
The board conducted the same process for vice chair. "With 4 votes in the affirmative, Doctor Aslan Stark is elected vice chair of the Lenoir County Board of Education," the presiding official said. The transcript records the tallies announced for each office but does not list a full roll-call of individual votes.
The board followed the procedure described by Mitchell: nominations required no second, a majority of members present is needed for election, and written ballots are used when more than one nominee is on the ballot. Miss Taylor served as the administrative staff member who handled ballot distribution and collection. The board returned to regular business after the swearing-in and gavel exchange.
