The Madison Heights City Council approved the evening’s consent agenda, which included items such as a proposed amendment to the Madison Heights Downtown Development Authority (MHDDA) bylaws addressing term limits, mayoral appointments to the Brownfield and DDA boards, an alternate appointment to SEMCOG, planning commission appointments and the Nov. 19 council meeting minutes.
Council also received and filed a salary order from the Elected Officials Compensation Commission that, if implemented, provides for a 3% salary increase for the mayor and council effective Jan. 9, 2026, and another 3% increase effective Jan. 1, 2027. City Manager Marsh told council the appropriate action was to receive and file the salary order with the city clerk; council voted to do so by voice vote.
In public comment, Kevin Wright, a member of the Madison Heights Historical Commission, invited residents to an open house at the Heritage Rooms (the city’s local archive and display space in the lower level of City Hall) on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; proceeds from commemorative T‑shirt sales will support archival digitization. Other council remarks noted volunteer efforts at the Madison Heights food pantry and recent community garden grants.
Staff and council closed the meeting with community announcements and holiday wishes. City staff also said Oakland County’s migration to a new dog‑license system (DocuPet) led to an extension of the dog license due date from Dec. 31 to March 31, 2026; staff encouraged residents to check the city website for details.
