Johnson County staff asked the Board of County Commissioners to authorize a 72-month maintenance agreement with Canon Medical Systems USA Inc. to service the medical examiner’s CT scanner at a total cost not to exceed $396,060 through Nov. 30, 2031.
Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Peterson told commissioners the county’s unit has recorded about 279,000 scanning seconds of an expected CT-tube lifespan of roughly 600,000–800,000 seconds. ‘‘The maintenance agreement does include a CT tube, so if the tube goes down, the maintenance agreement covers the cost of that,’’ Dr. Peterson said, adding that a replacement tube costs ‘‘about $100 to $175,000.’’ Staff said the per-year cost under the proposed term is roughly $66,000.
Commissioners asked about usage analytics and quick-response service. Dr. Peterson said quarterly preventative maintenance and local technicians provide same- or next-day response and routine software and calibration updates. Commissioner Ashcraft requested a follow-up meeting on analytics before the Dec. 11 action item.
The county presented the contract as an exception to competition under administrative policy and procedure 110-180 and recommended approval at the Dec. 11 meeting. No formal vote was taken at the agenda review.
Next steps: the item will come back for an action vote at the board’s Dec. 11 meeting.
