A Penn State Extension representative (identified in the meeting as Jennifer) told Pike County commissioners on Dec. 3 about two short-term promotions for online courses and announced a partnership with United Way for 2026 programming in Pike County.
Jennifer said the extension will email opted-in subscribers about the December "holiday gift" 20% discount and a January "invest in yourself" sitewide price drop. She also said she has partnered with Angela Bassani from United Way to bring new programming to Pike County in 2026 and will share program details in future meetings.
Following that announcement, Aaron Lombard, introduced as Monroe County vector control coordinator, briefed the commissioners on mosquito-control work. Lombard said the program is grant-funded through the state and provides services to nearby counties; he cautioned that West Nile virus is rising and described education and mitigation steps residents and property owners can take to reduce risk.
Lombard asked residents, property owners, businesses and officials to work together on prevention measures and said a fuller presentation would be given at the Pike Public Library at 12:30 that day.
