Jody Rogers of Rogers Uniforms addressed the commissioners during public comment to raise concerns about the county’s recent bid for correctional-officer uniforms.
Rogers said the bid had not been issued in several years and that the current solicitation was vague, producing inconsistent bids from vendors that may not account for recurring services such as in-person fittings, shipping and replacement items. He said his firm — a local county-based vendor — had not raised prices for five years and that competitors from out of state appeared to submit lower line-item prices that do not reflect the local, recurring service model his business provides.
“...the bid came back out, it was pretty vague and there were some questions,” Rogers said, urging commissioners to review the solicitation and to contact him for clarifications. Commissioners thanked Rogers for attending and said bid openings are not awards; staff indicated they may add a service line item to better capture recurring costs before awarding a contract.
The discussion highlighted the commissioners’ preference to support local businesses when feasible and the need to ensure bid specifications fairly reflect recurring service requirements for correctional uniforms.
