Lancaster, Texas — District leaders asked the board to accept a $25,000 restricted donation from Blueprint to provide the Move This World social‑emotional‑learning (SEL) curriculum for pre‑K through fourth grade and introduced a therapy dog, Roo, that the district will use as part of SEL programming.
Doctor Matthews said the district’s Move This World subscription provides Tier 1 and Tier 2 lessons, family resources and adult wellness content for staff; presentation materials cited 18,000 minutes of student usage in pre‑K‑4 and more than 2,560 teacher accesses to the system. Matthews said the total cost for the curriculum was listed as $40,762.50, with Blueprint providing $25,000 and Move This World providing an in‑kind contribution of $15,762.50 so "there is no cost" to the district for the program.
On the therapy dog program, Matthews introduced Roo, a French bulldog described as a therapy/SEL dog in training. The district said Roo receives ongoing training (24 weeks of foundational training plus roughly six weeks of therapy‑dog preparation), is about five months old and currently visits between 300 and 800 students per week for short "positive pause" classroom breaks that staff say reduce stress and improve attendance and student well‑being.
Administrators said initial costs for veterinary care, food, supplies and training have been identified and budgeted; Matthews said the dog was donated and that campus hosts and secondary handlers will support the program logistics. Trustees asked about measurement and usage data for Move This World; staff noted teacher‑reported usage tracking within the platform.
Next steps: The administration asked the board to accept the restricted donation and will bring the acceptance to the next regular meeting for formal approval.
