The Arlington Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Dec. 2 approved Ordinance 2024-13 on second and final reading to rezone a portion of parcels along Airline Road from a light-industrial employment designation to commercial zoning.
Planning staff member Mr. Crater told the board the land-use change responds to the likely sale of a vacant parcel previously used to allow expansion of an existing medical device manufacturer. Crater recommended rezoning to match surrounding commercial and retail development and said future industrial uses could still be allowed under a planned development, subject to BMA approval. Staff recommended approval, noting utilities and infrastructure can accommodate commercial development.
Mayor opened a public hearing on the ordinance, which was advertised in the Daily News on Nov. 12. No members of the public came forward to speak. After closing the hearing, the board approved the ordinance by voice vote. The transcript records the board saying “Aye” and that the item passes; no numerical vote tally or roll-call was recorded in the provided transcript.
The board’s approval changes the zoning map designation and will be followed by permitting and any conditions required under the town’s development review process. The town clerk or planning staff will provide the ordinance’s effective date and any related conditions in the official minutes and ordinance publication.
